Kindling Talent

The Urdd's participation in Power of the Flame consists of Cemni Theatr yr Urdd, the Message of Peace and Goodwill 2012, and Art, Design and Technology Competitions at the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Snowdonia 2012.

Cwmni Theatr yr Urdd

Since it was established in 2010, the new-look Cwmni Theatr yr Urdd has offered special experiences and opportunities to develop new skills and techniques to over 150 young people. The scheme's intention is to enable the company members to train under the leadership of diverse, professional artists and to use contemporary performing styles to create a dynamic Welsh-language theatre. The scheme will come to fruition in 2012 with ‘Sneb yn Becso Dam’ - a new musical play based on Edward H Dafis' album of the same name.

The theme of this original piece will be the tense choice facing young people between life in the city and the country, between safeguarding a heritage and moulding the Wales of the future.

In 2012 there will be 3 performances:

  • 11 July – Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen
  • 13 July – Sherman Cymru, Cardiff
  • 16 July – North Wales, exact location to be confirmed

We would also like to thank University College Trinity St David for sponsoring the scheme.

Message of Peace and Goodwill 2012

A special performance of the 2012 Message by young people from Snowdonia, based on the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Since 1922 this message has been sent from the youth of Wales to the youth of the world and has motivated and inspired international philanthropy. In the fifties, Urdd Gobaith Cymru became responsible for broadcasting the Message annually on the Day of Goodwill, 18 May - the date of the first peace conference in the Hague in 1899. Since then groups of young people have taken on the work of writing, performing and translating the Message to send it to the young people of the world.

This year 30 young people from Snowdonia will create the Message and for the first time it will be performed on the peak of Snowdon.
