The Proposal

Anne Gibbs - image of workAnne will use the Creative Wales Award to explore aspects of display using traditional methods and new technologies. There are two main areas of research she will investigate and develop. One is to examine a feature of Japanese culture, which is involved in Ikebana, the Japanese art form of flower arranging. The other is working collaboratively with Design Wales Forum and the Fab Lab Cardiff at Cardiff Metropolitan University investigating new media and three-dimensional technologies.

Anne will begin by undertaking lessons in the style and traditions of the ‘Ichiyo’ School of Ikebana, a style that encourages an imaginative use of materials and containers. Her recordings and experiences will be the starting point for devising new ways of selecting and presenting her work.

She will expand on her existing experience of using three-dimensional technologies. This combined with traditional mould making processes and the ikebana principles of arrangement and selection will be an exploratory and investigative creative journey.
