Drama that Breathes

Paul Rigel Jenkins: Natural SelectionAs a playwright and actor Paul has come to value what is utterly unique to live performance, its essential 'liveness' - an event happening here, now, with this unique group of people.

This Creative Wales Award will allow Paul to explore ways to make theatre that incorporates the impulses and interaction of performers and audience in live drama: intimate exchanges, active audience participation, disrupting performance and methods of meaningfully involving live feed social media.

In the same way a good stand-up comedian encourages a bit of heckling, assimilates it and gives as good as they get, this award will research ways to invite, provoke and involve exchanges between audiences and the drama unfolding on stage.

The research will incorporate training and collaboration with some of the best makers of interactive and participatory theatre in the UK and Europe, with the aim of developing working practices to contribute to the flourishing immersive theatre scene in Wales.
