The Artist as Curator/Curator Lab

Richard Higlett - 1Increasingly as an artist Richard has been involved in actions and decisions that can be said to be curatorial. He has seen this as an extension of his creative practice.

This Creative Wales Award will give him time out to research his development as a curator, particularly in an international context, while this period of discovery is in relation to the future development of the Goat Major Projects as a ‘Curator Lab’ for exploring curating from the starting point of it being ‘a creative act’.

The award provides an opportunity to gather global contacts, develop relationships and networks for exchange, bringing international curators into contact with the 'Lab'. The 'Lab', working as a type of creative portal, is in turn a space for research, dialogue and experimentation for emerging Welsh curators in an international context.

Richard would use the Award to embark on a rigorous period of self-development, framing the year around 4 international study visits, the award would also facilitate UK research and lay the foundations for project space focusing on the nature of curating.
