Through Time

Helen Woods - TidyWith a Creative Wales Award Helen will have time and freedom to research, extend and develop her own music composition style, process and practice without the restrictions of having a fixed brief/expectation or being written for a community setting or particular targeted audience.

She will also have time to research composition techniques and styles and further develop Helen’s own musical voice while broadening her knowledge and confidence in scoring for orchestral instruments and increasing discipline in scoring and attention to detail.

Helen will be mentored by two professional composers as she creates a series of sketches based on the themes of genealogy and time, writing initially for piano but then scored for an ensemble of 4 players to explore and develop the work.

All workshops and a final sharing will take place in the Memo Arts Centre, Barry.

There will be four intensive periods of time, with one day a week between these intensive blocks to give ideas time to breathe and incubate.

The Award will grant her time... one hundred days or one thousand hours or sixty thousand minutes or lots of seconds to write, read, research, listen, create, develop, document and probably most importantly - to play.
