About

Untitled User Untitled User
NIMBA is an African Performing Arts company founded in 2010 by the creative vision of Idrissa Nimba Camara and inspired by his rich cultural heritage, the dance and music traditions of his homeland, Guinea Conakry. Idrissa believes his traditions are an inexhaustible source of inspiration and
NIMBA is the name of the iconic Guinean Mask symbolising creative power and the Joy of Living.

We are an African Dance and Music organisation producing accessible performances and providing creative, educational and artistic activity through workshops, training, and film documentation of African Arts. We exist to entertain, engage and promote intercultural understanding and aim to enrich the lives of all those who come into contact with our company.

We work with amazing artists, most of them were born into the music tradition of West Africa and escaped poverty and corruption to make their way to Europe where we have been lucky enough to get to experience their dynamism and creative energy. Their performances promote the irrepressible joy of the human spirit and we aim to inspire the younger generation.

We conduct research and documentation of cultural practices in Guinea, including photgraphic, film and sound recordings. We have performed at festivals in France and Poland and offered dance workshops in Ireland, Poland and the USA. We produced a short documentary called "FARE Ta" which won best Documentary short at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival in California and Best Documentary at the International Film Festival of North Hollywood in 2016. Our artistic director was the subject of a Radio 4 documentary which has been aired world wide on the BBC World Service
